It has been an uneventful week in the office but rather more eventful in the world of British politics and economics. The pound is in a deflationary spiral against the Dollar and Euro, thereby making any holiday away from the Land of Albion rather expensive.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Lord Ashcroft, who has been bank rolling the Conservative Party, has ‘nom-dom’ status, meaning he hasn’t been paying UK tax on his overseas earnings. Lord Ashcroft has been castigated in the UK Press for not being entirely honest and being a touch shady. I don’t know all the in’s and out’s but in a perverse way, Lord Ashcroft will probably be held in high esteem by certain sections of society, i.e. anyone who pays higher rate tax, as he has been savvy enough to avoid punitive UK taxes.

Anyway, quote of the week. I posed the following question to a colleague this week: “Do you think our Boss is a touch dull?”, to which he replied;

“If you had been doing internal audit for 30 years, you aren’t going to be Jack Nicholson!”

“After my career in acting, I’m considering Internal Auditing”.
