This week’s ‘Quote of the Week’ comes from the television rather than the office as it was rather amusing at the time and incredibly it does have a tenuous connection to internal auditing and control.

I caught stand up comedian Rhod Gilbert on BBC2 earlier this week, in the subtly titled programme ‘Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience’. Gilbert is attempting various jobs with comic overtones. The scene which made me laugh was Rhod placing a sticker on a discarded television (which the bin men could not remove with domestic refuse) asking the owner to dispose of it themselves. Needless to say, the use of a sticker to track the miscreant is an ineffectual control and Rhod commented upon this in his own idiosyncratic style.

“Someone, as you can see, has dumped a television…

I’m going to do this anyway, like anyone is really going to come in here. see the TV they’ve dumped there – see the sticker on it ‘oh we can’t take this, its electrical goods’ and they’re going to do something about it.

Even though I know in my 41 years, this is the most pointless thing I have ever done in my entire life. I say that as someone who watched the first 3 series of Baywatch”.
