A belated quote of the week. The internal audit job market is beginning to hot up and the phone has been ringing. It could be a move into practice. Ge’ez, great. Long hours, dull work and ultra-competitive colleagues with dreams and ambitions of making partner. As one my colleagues, who has the pleasure of working for one of the Big 4 firms, depicted life in practice as follows. (I have sanitised this quote to protect the faint of heart).

“Working in practice is a bit being a monkey on a branch in a tree full of monkeys. Smiling faces below you and bum-holes above”.

Just to remove any doubt, its sycophants below you in the hierarchy and not so pleasant managers and partners above, dispensing the love, sorry, the work.

So, something to look forward to then….
