Quote of the Week WK/E 17/08/11 August 19, 2011

We’ve all been in the position where we have inherited an audit which is work in progress. It’s a bit like an Emergency Surgeon inheriting a car crash patient who has lost a few vital organs, which a couple of Junior Doctors have had a botched attempt at repairing but failed miserably. You can imagine the scene, the Surgeon has the bare bones but someone has tried to assemble the jigsaw their way but not your way.

Inheriting an audit mid-stream is just the same; some parts of the jigsaw are there, some bits aren’t. Some pedantic auditor has been overly elaborate in concocting the audit work programme to prove an esoteric point which the Audit Client is bound to say “fuck off” to. It’s going to be a big headache to straighten out.

Receiving such an audit is “a hospital pass”, you wish you hadn’t received it but you have no choice but to run with it.*

* Well, not quite. You edit the audit program and cut the crap! Hassle though.

Haven’t had any inheritances, just come behind a really bad auditor (usually big 4) who tried to do the audit last year. Not.
