This will be a brief quote of the week as you know I can’t be bothered to blog anymore but this is a gem. I had an interview last week; in with the Hiring Manager from Internal Audit and the chap from HR who was doing the HR recruiting. Got to say, very pleasant people. The Hiring Manager was reasonable, explained the role and team set up, expectations, etc. He posed the odd silly question but nothing insurmountable. The HR chap nodded away as we talked about risk management, audit methodology, difficult situations, audits gone wrong, etc.
Eventually the interview wrapped up and I was escorted from the premises by the HR chap. Seeing all the staff sitting in rows under fluorescent light floor after floor didn’t inspire me but still. Anyway, as the HR chap and I walked to the exit, can you guess what he said? (*And no, it wasn’t “here’s my phone number Big Boy”.)
“Most of that went over my head”.
So there you have it, cast iron proof that HR haven’t got a clue about professional* people and their skill-sets in an interview situation and how to evaluate them. Of course, this begs the question, why involve them in the interview process when they can’t (forgive the use of the phrase) ‘add-value’? I will leave it there.
* I use the term loosely where auditors are concerned.

One of the latest whizzes in recruit is providing feedback on the interview process. Of course, the outcome of the interview will have a bearing on whether the feedback is favourable. So without further ado, here is the feedback I provided to an employer. You will probably gather the interview went South and should any of the interviewers read this, Audit Money will be unmasked, Nevertheless.

I recently commented on self-indulgent interviewers; you know the type, those who just brag about themselves and forget the candidate’s ‘feelings’, if there is such a thing. There is another item which grates at interview is when the interviewer starts talking in glowing terms about a particular member of staff. This has occurred on a couple of occasions during my illustrious career.

To start, I’m not quite sure whether ‘self-indulgent’ is the correct term for this post but nevertheless, I will let, you, the reader decide. One thing I find really, really, irksome at interview is when the Interviewer talks about themselves in glowing terms.

As the two readers of this blog will be aware, my pet topics are dim auditors, dumb HR officers and plain dumb interview questions. Unfortunately, given this week’s events, this rich seam of blogging material shows no sign of abating. Audit Monkey was subjected to some inane interview questions but in particular had me beat:
